BPNI works with health care professionals and pregnant and nursing mothers, to create awareness and promote breast feeding. It trains health professionals to provide counselling to mothers and families at grassroot level. BPNI monitors compliance with the Infant Milk Substitute Act ( IMS) . It encourages research on breast feeding and related areas and disseminates these findings. It also offers assistance in setting up support groups in maternity homes and children's hospitals.
