Dr Shekhar Seshadri is a child psychiatrist and Additional Professor at the Department of Psychiatry at NIMHANS*. His work in child and adolescent mental health, including mental handicap, is in diagnosis and intervention, with a particular emphasis on adolescent therapy and adolescent sexuality. He has worked on gender and sexuality in the context of child sexual abuse and violence against women; and is involved in workshop design, direct intervention, and training of counsellors. For street children, he has helped with counselling, and the design of action research projects for drug abuse prevention, HIV/AIDS and sexuality. He is a consultant to schools, teachers and NGOs working with children in training, programme development, action research and process evaluation, in the areas of life skills and theatre-in-education. His current work is in psychotherapy and psychotherapy training related to children with disorders or children in especially vulnerable circumstances, and to linking this with qualitative research, especially children's narratives.
