ASHA Foundation works to create awareness about HIV/AIDS. It organises seminars, and produces audio-visual material to create awareness about HIV/IADS for organisations, schools and colleges. It offers free HIV/AIDS counselling and medical care, including anonymous testing for HIV; and has set up the first 24-hour AIDS helpline in the city that receives over 2000 calls a month. It has developed a curriculum to introduce sexuality education in schools and colleges, emphasising HIV/AIDS awareness, value education and character building. The programme is in collaboration with New Life World Aid Inc., USA. It also trains teachers to use this curriculum. It provides rehabilitation facilities for persons with HIV/AIDS, and finds shelter for orphans with HIV/AIDS in conjunction with other NGOs. It networks with other organisations, and undertakes research on HIV/AIDS related issues to lobby for policy change.
