Dr Padma Sarangapani is a researcher interested in the areas of teacher education and mathematics education, primarily at the elementary level. She has an M Phil and PhD in education from Delhi University. Her doctorate was an anthropological study of children in a village school, with a special focus on how knowledge is constituted in the classroom. She was awarded a Fulbright fellowship at Tufts University, USA, and she worked as a research assistant with the Yashpal Committee, Learning without Burden, appointed by the Government of India. She has worked in the area of curriculum development for primary school mathematics, and in teacher education. She developed an innovative programme for elementary teacher education at Delhi University, and a professional development programme at Digantar, Jaipur. She has been awarded an Indira Gandhi Memorial Fellowship, and continues to research issue related to school, learning and childhood.
