TIDE is involved in adopting, developing and disseminating technologies for urban and rural development. Its focus areas are renewable energy, geographical information systems, urban planning, rural industries and research. It has developed a multimedia game on buildings as part of a project through Vigyan Prasar, a government agency that popularises science and technology. The set of simulated games and puzzles introduces the concept of space, its utilisation and structures. The games involve manipulating the shape and strength of structures and materials, and promote environmental consciousness. The programme is available in three languages - English, Kannada and Hindi.
