IMRHC serves children with autism, Down's syndrome, speech and hearing, visual, multiple and learning disability. It has an infant stimulation programme and offers an individualised programme to meet the needs of each child. Children who can learn are encouraged to complete the Std 7 examination, while other children are taught daily living skills. Children also engage in a range of activities including movement therapy, craft, music, painting, and karate; and are referred to resource people such as artists and musicians to develop their special talents. It has a toy library at its centre with a wide range of multisensory toys. It conducts workshops for parents of children with mental retardation, and offers training for caregivers of children with disability. It also conducts summer camps for parents and interested persons in the areas of rehabilitation, nutritional therapy, and the care of a child with multiple handicaps. It visits three slum areas in the city to identify and provide assistance to children with disability. It is also involved in developing a non-formal and formal education curriculum for children with disability based on a study of over 200 children.
