Arpana runs a school for 80 children with mental retardation and associated disabilities, especially those from economically disadvantaged families. It has an academic programme and training in personal hygiene, self grooming, social and vocational skills. It organises field trips and extra-curricular activities, and children have participated in national and international sports championships. It helps to find employment for its students whenever possible. It attempts to identify families that have children with mental retardation, and has both counselling and an early intervention programme for parents so they can provide a conducive home environment for the child's development.
