Ashankura runs a school for 60 children with mental retardation, cerebral palsy, and associated disabilities. It has an individualised academic programme, vocational training, speech therapy, yoga and dance. It organises annual picnics, recreation, cultural and sports activities, and its students have participated in the Special Olympics and Winter Olympics. It also lays emphasis on teaching drama, and would like to see its children involved in public performances. Parents are closely involved in school activities. After school, children are usually placed in the BEL vocational training programme.
