BOSCO works with boy street children in seven areas of the city. It has a booth at the city railway station, the BOSCO Makkala Ashraya, to identify children as they arrive in the city and prevent them from becoming street children. It runs three shelters, where it provides skill training. It offers medical aid and education on the street and at its centres, and assists children to go to schools. It promotes home placement so that children can grow in their families. It has conducted a drug prevention programme in partnership with the Bangalore Forum for Street and Working Children* and NIMHANS*, and a training programme on non-institutional strategies for working with children at risk, for government and NGO personnel. It has initiated research along with NIMHANS in the area of juvenile justice, and on the sexual behaviour of street children and HIV/AIDS.
