IFA is a national philanthropy for the arts, that interprets the arts widely to include the written, the painted, the performed, the crafted, the broadcasted and the filmed - both traditional and modern - and makes grants in three areas: arts research and documentation, arts collaboration and arts education. Its arts education programme aims to facilitate the introduction of the arts in learning contexts across the country. It works with teachers, educators, artists, and government bodies to help revise prevalent notions about the value of arts education. Efforts are also on to identify institutions that will help steer the programme by developing curricula and pedagogies for arts education, in association with artists, teachers of the arts, and educators. As a first step, 16 schools in Goa have introduced theatre as an optional subject in the secondary school syllabus.
