Communication DEALL (Developmental Eclectic Approach to Language Learning) is an early intervention programme developed by Dr Prathibha Karanth for children with communication disorders such as the Autism Spectrum disorders, Specific Language Impairment and Developmental Verbal Dyspraxia.
The communication, social, behavioural and cognitive differences seen in these children is viewed as consequences of more basic sensory motor deficits rather than as core deficits.
Based on a multidisciplinary approach, the DEALL programme provides intensive stimulation (3 hours/day, 5 days/week, over an academic year) and training to small groups of children. The intervention is suited to the profile of each child and covers several developmental domains such as motor, communication, social and cognitive development. It also addresses other related issues such as eye contact, attention and sitting tolerance, compliance and behaviour.
Ideally, children should be enrolled to the DEALL programme between the age of 2½ - 3 years. This offers the child maximum opportunity to attain age appropriate skills and behaviour by school entry age (6 yrs for class 1).
This is a self-financed programme managed by a multidisciplinary team of Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists and Educators, with 12 children per unit and a 1: 3 ratio of staff to children.
Communications DEALL also offers speech therapy and occupational therapy services.
